Powercell partners with SustainablePEOPLE for a hands-on intervention at Ketu Motor Park
There is a difference between cleaning a space and changing how people think about it. On World Cleanup Day 2025, Powercell Limited set out to do both.
In partnership with SustainablePEOPLE, our team joined volunteers and community members at Ketu Motor Park for a hands-on cleanup exercise. The location was deliberate. Motor parks are high-traffic hubs where waste accumulates quickly and where the visual reminder of neglect can normalise bad habits. If we could shift the environment there, we could shift the conversation around it.
Armed with gloves, waste pickers, and refuse bags, the team got to work. But the exercise was never just about picking up litter. It was about demonstrating that environmental stewardship is not someone else’s job. It belongs to everyone who uses, passes through, or lives near these spaces.
Throughout the day, conversations happened naturally. Volunteers engaged traders, drivers, and passers-by on the importance of responsible waste disposal and the long-term cost of environmental neglect. The message was simple: a cleaner community is not the government’s responsibility alone, and it is certainly not the job of the person who comes after you. It is a shared duty that starts with individual action.

By the end of the day, the physical transformation was visible. But the more important outcome was harder to measure: a small but tangible shift in ownership. People began to see the space differently because they had participated in changing it.
That is the philosophy behind our environmental initiatives. We do not just show up, take pictures, and leave. We work with communities, not just for them. Because cleaner communities are not built by single-day events. They are built by people who decide, repeatedly, to take responsibility for the world around them.
