Consistent power supply is critical for manufacturers who rely on round-the-clock operations. For Kem Kem Sachet Water, one of Nigeria’s growing packaged water producers, unreliable grid power and the rising cost of diesel were creating significant challenges.

The Challenge

Water production is highly energy-dependent, requiring stable electricity for pumping, purification, and packaging. Kem Kem faced frequent downtime due to the erratic power supply the area, alongside escalating operational costs from diesel generators. This threatened production efficiency, delivery timelines, and ultimately customer satisfaction.

Where we came in

Powercell deployed a 53.3kWp solar PV system paired with an 81.92 kWh battery storage solution at Kem Kem’s facility. This hybrid system integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure to:

  • Provide reliable daytime solar generation.
  • Store excess energy in high-capacity batteries for use during outages or at night.
  • Reduce dependency on diesel generators.

The system was designed for scalability and efficiency, ensuring that Kem Kem’s production lines remain powered while significantly cutting energy costs.

The Impact

Since its commissioning, the solar + storage solution has:

  • Improved production uptime, reducing costly interruptions.
  • Lowered fuel expenses, easing the burden of rising diesel prices.
  • Enhanced sustainability, by reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

This project further demonstrates Powercell’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s manufacturing sector with tailored renewable energy solutions that boost operational resilience and long-term cost savings among commercial and industrial industries.
